Not as the primary reason. Perhaps I also hated them, for having attempted to kill me and my friends in the first place.

[ he reads it, because he's nosy. ]

That's because that was one of the ones I hated.

[her smile drops.]

But I didn't want him to have to die. I wish he'd left me be.

[turbulency]

[ he's quiet for a moment ]

Why did he betray you?

[she frowns, twisting some hair around her hand.]

We wound up traveling together for a time. I didn't know it, but he was a member of a group we've been opposed to for a while. He didn't plan to find us, but he could have run off and hid or gone another way. Instead, he tried to become our friend, learn more about us, so he could report back.

...He had his reasons to hate my friends and I. Different sides in a war that is more complex than what is simply right and what isn't. But when he was caught, the person he chose to hurt to get away was the one member of our little group who had no part in any of it.

[turbulency]

I guess that they associated with you was enough for him.

[ his voice is even, if a little confused like he's not entirely sure what to think. ]

Was your companion alright?

...She was.

[a sigh.]

We were able to revive her and heal her, though she was quite upset. She didn't deserve to experience that sort of betrayal.

[turbulency]

[ He's a little ??? at someone just coming back from the dead, but also Laudna is dead so. ]

... Oh. That's good. How... long had you been with the traitor?

[ On his own shirt, TRAITOR starts to form. ]

And what kind of traitor are you?

[turbulency]

[ Look down, he grimaces a moment before covered the word with his hand, though the inky black just shows up on the back of his palm. ]

I'm not. [ Frustrated, ] I'm not a traitor or a curse user. I've never even killed anyone.
